This blog was started in 2008 when we did IVF for the first time to build our family after 5 1/2 years of infertility. We now have 14 and 8 year old boys (thanks to modern medicine) and we are enjoying our blessed life as parents ♥ In the summer of 2016 we took another huge step and moved across the country from Oklahoma to New York! This blog is about life and everything in between

Summer Camp 2024

We are back from summer camp 2024! We returned last Friday after 2 weeks at Adirondack Woodcraft Camp. This was mine and Brad's 4th year there, and Jacob's 3rd. This was Brad's last year as he will be too old to be a camper next year, and does not want to train to be a counselor.

This year was a bit different...I have been the camp nurse in the past, however I am unable to stay longer than 2 weeks due to my shifts at the hospital. This summer they had a full time nurse to stay the whole summer, so they offered me a position of Arts and Crafts Director! I figured hey why not, so I agreed and gave it a go.

The first bonus was I had an entire cabin to myself, instead of just a room in the health center!

We arrived the day before camp started, and the boys stayed in my cabin with me in a bunk bed. The next morning, I got them set up in their cabins then campers arrived and the work began!

This year Brad was again in Trail Camp, and Jacbo was in Iriquois Village. They both made fast friends with their cabin mates and adjusted right away to the camp schedule and activities. Our first couple of days there were actually pretty chilly! In the mornings the temp inside my cabin was around 50-55 degrees. However summer found us, and the temps quickly went up and it stayed above average until we left.

One of the beautiful places I enjoyed some coffee and quiet time....

Some evenings I would make rounds with the camp director to check on all the cabins at bedtime. This dock is out by Brad's division on the other side of the lake.

I always said good morning to my boys at breakfast!

Brad on the fishing dock with his group.

Brad taking his swimming test and passed with flying colors!

Jacob...not so much. So he stayed in the shallow end and the lifeguards helped him learn water skills.

Every Sunday there's a camp wide fire with stories and songs.

Brad's division did a skit and a song.

Jacob got really good at archery and earned 3 patches while he was there!

Even though he was a green swimmer, Brad usually chose to stay on the beach....

But Jacob liked to play in the water!

Brad would gather an audience while he annihilated opponents at Connect 4.

One of the evenings we had our leadership meeting by a private firepit in front of the lake.

Brad brought a friend to arts and crafts.....

Enjoying a period off and quiet time.

Wearing their tie dye shirts!

Jacob learning bracelets in arts and crafts.

Some evenings each division had smores at their own campfires.

Beautiful trails around the camp and lakes!

Jacob whittling in arts and crafts (he did cut his finger once, so I sent him to the nurse ;)

He had lots of fun on the rock climbing wall!

Getting his archery patches presented at dinner.

On July 4 several of the campers were on trips, so the ones that remained got to go on a special outing to Eagle Cliff to watch the fireworks over the lake!

Lovely views in the morning.

Jacob loved playing on the water trampoline.

The older girls and boys groups got to spend a Saturday hiking Big Slide in the High peaks region. They did great!

Our last week there, Brad's division went on a 4 night canoe trip! They stayed at different spots on Cranberry lake and also got to do some hiking there.

The next day Jacob's group left for a 2 night canoe trip. They went to a different lake but had lots of fun together camping and canoeing.

As soon as we all got home, I worked the whole weekend and am immediately going off for my next adventure to Alaska! Check back soon for updates on that.....
