This blog was started in 2008 when we did IVF for the first time to build our family after 5 1/2 years of infertility. We now have 14 and 8 year old boys (thanks to modern medicine) and we are enjoying our blessed life as parents ♥ In the summer of 2016 we took another huge step and moved across the country from Oklahoma to New York! This blog is about life and everything in between

Hiking NY: Letchworth (North End) and Zoar Valley

This week we had a couple of sunny days, so I took advantage again and got out on the trail! The first day my friend Jess and her boyfriend met at my house, then we carpooled south to Letchworth State Park.

I've hiked here a couple of times, but there are many trails to see. This time, we decided to hit the north end of the park and hike trails #20, 19, and 18. We met another friend Emily at the Mt. Morris Dam, then drove to the next Parking Lot (see map below) and joined trail #20 from there.

Along trail #19 there were ruins from a CCC camp (read about that here!) from the 1940s where only a fireplace remained from a building.

This is Gibsonville Falls

At the end of trail #19 we joined trail #18, which required us to cross a creek and hike uphill next to this waterfall (Kisil Falls).

We had to get creative crossing the creek! Thankfully there were some downed trees we could carefully climb over the water on.

Trail #18 led past some campgrounds (all closed right now) and out to a point (Kisil Point) with a view of the beautiful gorge!

The next day was even sunnier! This time Bradley went with me. We drove into Buffalo and picked up Jess for an hour drive south of the city to Zoar Valley (see map below, arrow where we parked) to hike Valentine's Trail.

We started the short trail by heading north out to Valentine Point to see the river and gorge below.

Next we followed the trail thru the forest and encountered large hills, and huge wild grapevines. Bradley took advantage of both.

The trail ended at the river, so we took our time enjoying the beautiful sights and peaceful sounds of the flowing water. We definitely plan to come back on a hot summer day to enjoy it again!
