Hiking NY: Chasing Waterfalls

This week we had a brief afternoon of sunshine, so Bradley and I hit the road for some local waterfall chasing! There were 3 I had in mind around our area, and we managed to hit all 3 before the rain and cold front hit us.

First up was the Medina Falls, just off the Erie Canal. Not really a hike, we just parked along the canal trailway and walked about a quarter mile to the viewing spot. You can walk the trail along most of the canal I believe!

Next we headed a bit more west to Gasport for the Royalton Ravine trail. This was more woodsy and the trail was about a mile of hiking until we got to the falls. It was a smaller fall, maybe 20' high. Unfortunately the trail brought us above the falls, so we had to climb down to be at the top of the falls. I couldn't safely get to the bottom, so no scenic pics!

Looking down the waterfall

Last but definitely not least we headed SE to Akron for the beautiful Akron Falls Park! This is actually a town park with a creek running thru it on one side. There is a road thru the park parallel to the creek with several parking spots that you can get out and join the trail that walks along the creek. Toward the end of the park is a paved trail that goes to a viewing area right in front of the large waterfall. Very scenic!

So pretty! I'm glad we finally got to check these local beauties out. As we were halfway home it the temperature dropped 15 degrees and it started raining! Perfect timing.
